Title: Assistant Director of Operations for the Student Center for Belonging and Community
Position Purpose:
The Assistant Director of Operations is an essential member of the Student Center of Belonging and Community (SCBC), which is charged with creating a holistic, student-centered environment that cultivates community and belonging, provides resources for students’ personal and academic success, and connects students to opportunities across campus.
The Assistant Director of Operations will work closely with the Associate Dean/Director, serving as an
Ambassador for the SCBC. This role is responsible for developing, implementing and managing the budget for
overall SCBC programming that promotes an inclusive environment for students. The Assistant Director of
Operations will also recruit, hire, supervise, and support the development of student employees, referred to as
Community Navigators; develop and nurture cross-campus collaborations; and design, implement, and
evaluate annual programs/traditions and all other programs as appropriate and assigned by the Associate
Dean/Director. Lastly, the Assistant Director of Operations will manage the SCBC physical space and the day-to-
day functions of the center.
Job Duties:
Student Support, Program Design/ Implementation
Collaborate with the Associate Dean/Director to design, implement, and assess programs
Advise the Associate Dean/Director on student-related issues that may emerge
Serve as a resource to designated student organizations and liaison to the Advancement Office team
focused on MOSAIC Programming for underrepresented alumni
Collaborate with Coordinator for Events and Social Media on the design, marketing, and implementation
of SCBC and campus programming, specifically annual programming including Welcome Receptions,
Graduation Reception, Study Breaks, Academic Break Trips, etc.
Serve as a Student Support Advisor and an informal mentor to students who frequent the SCBC.
Assist in compiling data and preparing reports of student support programs and activities.
Attend and participate in meetings, training, and professional development activities.
Oversees SCBC student employees, including training, supervision, and evaluating student Community
Navigators.
Administration and Operations
Manage all SCBC reservations.
Manage and maintain physical space.
Manage operational and programmatic budget with Associate Dean/Director..
Provide scheduling support to other staff members.
Be a visible presence in the office.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or relevant field required. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience
Demonstrated experience in the field of student affairs and student-facing diversity, equity, and
inclusion.
Demonstrated experience developing and implementing specialized programming and support to a wide range of students from underrepresented groups.
Demonstrated experience in project management and coordination.
Previous experience managing and supervising student staff with the higher education context.
Engagement with the institution and its audiences.
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including weekend and evening hours.
Skills and Knowledge
Commitment to working with students of color, LGBTQ+ students, and first-generation students, their families, and campus support structures to facilitate their academic, co-curricular, and personal success and development.
Commitment to equity and inclusion, and serving the needs of a culturally and educationally diverse community.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and student privacy as appropriate.
Effective interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and the ability to coordinate resources and
staff within the college community.
Solid understanding of the academic and social challenges experienced by marginalized students in a college environment.
Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
Proficiency in basic data management systems, computer applications, and social media
platforms.
