Primary Purpose:


Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications:


Bachelor's degree in related field


Valid Texas teaching certificate in agricultural science


Possess a valid Texas driver's license


Driving history that will permit the operation of a school vehicle (meet transportation eligibility requirements)


Knowledge of agricultural science and technology


General knowledge of curriculum and instruction


Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior


Ability to supervise agricultural field experiences


Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills


Possess a proven leadership skill

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Supervise Agricultural Science projects (SAEP).
  2. Coordinate assigned tasks as related to Northwest ISD Progress Show and the Northwest ISD Livestock Show
  3. Interact effectively with FFA Booster Club.
  4. Oversee Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAEP), including assisting students in selecting and managing projects and supervising school farm.
  5. Serve as advisor to local Future Farmers of American (FFA) chapter, including planning and conducting leadership, citizenship, cooperative, career development, and competitive activities for students at local, regional, and state level.
  6. Assist with planning and delivery of adult education and community programs relating to agricultural science and technology.
  7. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  8. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  9. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  10. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  11. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  12. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  13. Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  14. Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  15. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  16. Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  17. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  18. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  19. Be a positive role model for students, support mission of school district.
  20. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  21. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  22. Accompany and supervise students at all off-campus activities including contests, workshops, and field trips associated with the agricultural science program and FFA.
  23. Oversee the process of maintaining facilities and equipment including school farm.
  24. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  25. Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  26. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  27. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  28. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  29. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  30. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  31. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  32. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  33. Teach Agricultural Science courses as assigned on campus
  34. Develop and support student leadership and judging teams.
  35. Lead and coordinate FFA Chapter.

Personal computer, copier, Fax machine, copier, document camera, and other specialized equipment that is particularly unique to the teaching assignment.

Working Conditions:


Maintain emotional control under stress. Position requires frequent district and regional travel, occasional statewide travel, prolonged and irregular hours. Regular lifting and carrying moderate weight, Position requires frequent standing, stooping, bending, keyboarding, overhead reaching, pulling, and pushing. Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, and around machinery with moving parts. Exposure to extreme temperatures and biological and chemical hazards.
