Lead Facility Engineer

Location: Los Angeles Area

Salary: Base in the $150-180k range.

Scientific Search has partnered with an exciting biotech company that is looking for a Lead Facility Engineer that will be responsible for overseeing the design, operation, and maintenance of critical infrastructure, systems, and equipment within a laboratory environment. The Lead Facility Engineer will play a crucial part in managing the lab’s technical systems, ensuring they meet safety, regulatory, and efficiency standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead facility engineering efforts for a laboratory specializing in biotechnology and plant cell culture applications, ensuring efficient, compliant, and safe operations.
• Oversee the design, construction, and maintenance of lab facilities and infrastructure, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and specialized biotech equipment.
• Manage lab equipment maintenance.
• Ensure the facility adheres to all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and other relevant standards.
• Lead engineering teams and contractors in facility projects, ensuring timely delivery, cost-efficiency, and adherence to safety standards.
• Conduct regular inspections and audits of equipment, systems, and utilities to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and operational efficiency.
• Identify and implement energy-efficient solutions, optimizing facility resources to reduce costs and environmental impact.
• Provide engineering support to troubleshoot and resolve issues affecting the laboratory’s daily operations, including mechanical, electrical, or chemical equipment failures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Facilities Management) or related field. Master’s degree in Facility or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
• 7+ years of experience in facility engineering, preferably in a lab or biotech environment.
• Strong knowledge of lab facility infrastructure, including HVAC, electrical systems, and plumbing.
• Demonstrated experience in managing facility budgets and engineering project timelines.
• Experience working within GMP, safety, and regulatory compliance guidelines.
• Familiarity with lab-specific systems, such as bioreactors, centrifuges, and other specialized equipment.
