Key Responsibilities:

Tax Regulation Knowledge:
  • Stay up-to-date with federal, state, and local motor fuel tax laws and regulations.
  • Interpret and apply tax regulations to refund requests.
Refund Application Processing:
  • Receive and review motor fuel tax refund applications from eligible entities.
  • Verify the accuracy and completeness of refund applications, ensuring all required documentation is included.
  • Process refund applications in a timely and accurate manner.
Calculation of Refunds:
  • Accurately calculate the refund amount based on the information provided in the application.
  • Ensure that all tax credits and deductions are appropriately applied.
Record Keeping:
  • Maintain organized records of all refund applications and related documentation.
  • Generate reports and documentation for internal and external auditing purposes.
Communication:
  • Respond to inquiries from applicants and provide assistance in understanding the refund process.
  • Communicate with tax authorities, auditors, and relevant government agencies as needed.
Compliance Monitoring:
  • Conduct regular reviews to ensure ongoing compliance with tax regulations.
  • Address any discrepancies or issues promptly to maintain accuracy and compliance.
Customer Service:
  • Provide excellent customer service to applicants, assisting them throughout the refund process.
  • Address concerns and questions professionally and promptly.
Reporting:
  • Prepare regular reports on refund application processing, approvals, and denials.
  • Maintain data for statistical analysis and reporting purposes.
Quality Assurance:
  • Implement quality control measures to minimize errors in refund calculations and application processing.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and propose solutions.
Documentation and Filing:
  • Ensure that all documents are properly filed and stored in accordance with record-keeping requirements.
Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience in tax compliance, accounting, or finance is highly advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills are essential for accurate refund calculations.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of tax software and financial management software.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Familiarity with government tax regulations and compliance standards.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Integrity and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
